Laura Steffeck was born and raised in New Orleans. She loves the joie de vivre (joy of life) of that city. She carries that joy with her still and brings a little southern hospitality everywhere she goes. She and her husband Mike have been married for 44 fulfilling years. They have had four children together and twelve “well behaved and beautiful” grandchildren.
In business – Twenty-seven years ago Laura started a residential, commercial, and new construction cleaning company. The business has been a great success. Today it still provides a great part time opportunity for those who like to work and a great cleaning for those that need a cleaning service. Cleaning was the outcome, but the work that Laura loved best was working with the women she contracted. There were, single moms, women that had a rough start in life, and some that just needed extra income. One of Laura’s greatest accomplishments was having five cleaning associates that came to work with her, get off all government aid and eventually own their own homes and change their future. Laura’s work focused on leading by example, practicing personal responsibility, pursuing consistent effort in the right direction, and implementing the principles Jesus taught. These were the commonsense practices that helped her company flourish and brought additional success for those that worked alongside Laura.
Education – Laura graduated from Louisiana Tech University. Valuing her experience, she is not sure everyone needs a college degree. Two of her own children have degrees and two do not. Each person has their own journey and college is not always the only option for success.
The future – It belongs to our kids. The world has a way of teaching each of us. If Linn-Mar students are encouraged to aim higher than they think they can go, work hard, love learning, respect others, keep observing the world around them, and stay inquisitive, who can say how far they will go?
